June 18 - OVCATA community ride, Barrys Bay - Zurakowski Park

There will be a pair of community bike rides starting out from Zurakowski Park in Barrys Bay on Sunday, June 18 at 9 a.m.

Experienced riders will ride the "Kartuzy loop," about 37 km of tough but wonderfully scenic hills with a coffee break at Madawaska Kanu Camp. A family ride will go up Old Barrys Bay Road as far as riders feel comfortable. That road is virtually flat and can take riders to Wadsorth Lake or Crooked Slide Park.

The Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance (OVCATA) is organizing the rides as part of a series of spring rides in towns throughout Renfrew County. OVCATA is holding the ride to promote cycling, the Silver Chain Challenge and cycling safety, and to introduce itself.

Ontario's Ministry of Transportation is sponsoring the community rides, paying for publicity, free bumper stickers that promote the 1-metre rule, and other safety literature, as well as cold drinks and snacks.
